Dr. Ignatius Komninakas

Dr. Komninakas is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in adult reconstructive surgery, joint replacement and biologic joint resurfacing. He is an attending physician with staff privileges at Griffin Hospital and St Vincent’s Medical Center.Dr. Komninakas received a B.S. in biology at Fairfield University and his medical degree at St Louis School of Medicine. He completed a general surgical internship at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University. His orthopaedic residency training was completed at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Komninakas furthered his training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University School of Medicine after completing his fellowship in joint reconstructive and replacement surgery. During his residency and fellowship he had the opportunity to work alongside renowned orthopaedic surgeons and developers of total knee and hip replacement systems in Arlington, Virginia and Boston, Massachusetts.

His orthopaedic interests include general orthopaedics, conventional and alternative management of arthritis, minimally invasive surgery including arthroscopy, joint resurfacing and joint replacement surgery. He has performed custom knee replacements, minimally invasive surgery and has received specialized training in the latest techniques of biologic joint resurfacing including autologous chondrocyte implantation. He is board certified by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Fairfield County Medical Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Komninakas resides in Shelton with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, various outdoor activities and travel.
